The Attic Loft Studio Reconstruction was conceived as a complete interior transformation project, turning an unfinished attic floor into a functional and visually spacious loft-style living environment. The scope included interior reconstruction, space planning, and the development of clearly defined yet visually connected living zones.
The project began with an entirely empty attic space connected to the lower floor by a small stairwell shaft that also served as the main access point. The objective was to convert the undeveloped attic into a comfortable and visually spacious living environment while preserving the open character and atmosphere typical of loft interiors.
The apartment layout and interior design were developed as a personal project, and the final result remained largely faithful to the original concept and zoning strategy.
One of the primary goals was to maintain a sense of openness while defining different functional areas through subtle design solutions. Instead of relying on traditional partition walls, the project focused on visual zoning through furniture placement, material transitions, lighting design, and semi-open architectural elements.
The studio layout combines several functions within a unified space:
- Sleeping area
- Dining area
- Compact kitchen
- Home office corner
- Bathroom
- Storage and built-in organization solutions
Particular attention was given to circulation and visual flow throughout the interior. The central portion of the room was intentionally kept as open as possible, allowing the sloped ceilings and exposed timber beams to remain prominent features of the space. Functional elements were primarily positioned along the perimeter, enabling both natural light and movement to flow freely throughout the apartment.
A Japanese-inspired frosted glass sliding door was installed between the bathroom and the main living area. This solution allowed the bathroom to become part of the overall spatial experience when desired, while also helping daylight penetrate deeper into the interior. In the evenings, ambient light from the main living area could softly filter through the frosted glass, reducing the need for separate bathroom lighting.
One of the project’s key spatial design features became the diagonal ceramic floor zone connecting the entrance, kitchen, and fireplace areas. This element helped visually organize the open-plan layout while creating a natural circulation axis through the entire space.
Several original design concepts focused on lightweight zoning solutions, including:
- An open floor-to-ceiling shelving structure between the kitchen and home office
- A sliding partition that would have allowed the sleeping area to be partially separated when needed
Although some of these ideas remained conceptual, approximately 90% of the original design solution was ultimately realized.
The material palette combines warm wood tones, exposed brick surfaces, soft ambient lighting, and handcrafted details. Rather than concealing the architectural characteristics of the attic, such as the sloped ceilings and exposed beams, these elements were deliberately emphasized as defining features of the interior identity.
An important modification during the project involved the staircase design. The originally planned spiral staircase proved visually too dominant for the space and was later replaced with a lighter spiral stair solution that improved the sense of openness and overall balance of the interior.
The portfolio reconstruction includes:
- Original zoning diagrams
- Reconstructed concept sketches
- Hand-drawn style perspective views
- Atmospheric interior visualizations
- Photographs of the completed apartment
This is not merely a conceptual design exercise but a complete real-world living environment, developed from the initial planning stage through to final realization.
